While millions of canines live happy domesticated lives, many more never have the chance to experience human companionship. In some parts of the world, stray dogs are so abundant that most people turn a blind eye to them, paying no mind as they pass them on the street. That was the case with one injured, suffering dog.
Most people ignored this poor dog, but one kind stranger finally noticed it. This dog wasn't a mere stray. It was disabled, incapable of using its kind legs to move. It hobbled along on its front legs, dragging its rear behind. The stranger, recognizing its suffering, followed the dog.
The stranger found it curled in a corner, fearful of the world around. While the kind human wasn't in a position to take it home just yet, they did bring it food. Despite some hesitation, the dog scarfed down its meal. While doing so, it struggled to stay upright, subconsciously raising its rear as it ate.
The savior returned to the dog several times daily, bringing it food while building trust.
Letting Its Guard Down
After several days of checking in on the dog, the rescuer earned its trust enough to pet it. After calling for the dog, it hobbled over and waited patiently for food, its eyes yearning for companionship. The stranger petted it, showing the poor dog the affection that so many others refused to give. Wanting to do more, they brought the dog a cushion to rest its body.
The dog quickly took to the new comfortable cushion, showing appreciation for the offering.
The man who discovered this dog formed a strong bond, and he decided to take action. He brought the pup home, building it a sheltered cabin with a comfortable mattress.
The dog instantly recognized that the structure was its new home. The man used the opportunity to examine the dog, realizing its disability caused the pup to drag its feet with every step. The motion resulted in painful injuries.
A New Way to Get Around
The man decided to take action and help this dog. He named him Quiangqiag and treated the wounds, wrapping them with gauze to promote healing. But that's not all. Knowing the injuries would only return once the dog started moving, the man built a canine wheelchair.
The wheelchair consisted of only PVC piping, sturdy wheels and a sling. However, it made a significant difference in Quiangqiag's life. The dog took to it quickly, zipping around his new home.
The design of the wheelchair lifted the dog's rear legs, preventing them from dragging on the dirt. Not only did it avoid future injuries, but it gave Quiangqiag more mobility than ever!
The dog followed his new owner on walks, getting much-needed exercise while exploring the world with a brand-new lease on life. The man continued to refine the wheelchair, making it even better with every iteration. Eventually, Quiangqiag used it to run around the city, playing with other humans and dogs every chance he got!
While Quiangqiag's disabilities were not curable, he was able to reclaim his life with the help of a kind human stranger. Quiangqiag is now part of the family. He's healthier than ever before and surrounded by people who love him.
His new owner goes above and beyond, helping him rest, play and live out the rest of his days with all the love and support Quiangqiag could ever need.
